eyeSight: The Embedded Vision Alliance's Latest Member Takes Flight
April 26, 2012
Back in early March, I told you about the Embedded Vision Alliance's then-latest member, CogniMem Technologies. Less than two months later, I'm happy to share with you the news that the EVA has expanded yet again, to include Israel-based eyeSight Mobile Technologies. The company name will be a familiar one for regular visitors to the EVA website, for I've mentioned it several times in recent news writeups:
- The Gesture-Augmented Cellphone: Pantech Gives EyeSight's Technology An Implementation Home, and
- Recent Investments: eyeSight Raises $4.2 Million From CEVA, Mitsui
Earlier this week, the Embedded Vision Alliance issued a press release announcing the news. And you might also remember EVA founder Jeff Bier's interview with (and technology demonstration by) company founder and CTO Itay Katz during January's Consumer Electronics Show:
eyeSight is the second gesture interface-focused member of the Embedded Vision Alliance, joining fellow Israel-based company Omek Interactive, whose founder and CTO, Gershom Kutliroff, Jeff Bier interviewed last September:
Although the companies are conceptually similar, my conclusion after learning about both them is that they target somewhat different market segments. Omek Interactive strongly focuses on robust gesture interface implementations using various 3-D (i.e. depth-discerning) image sensor subsystems, while as Pantech's promotional video suggests, eyeSight has more modest single-sensor aspirations:
More generally, both eyeSight Mobile Technologies and Omek Interactive exemplify the Embedded Vision Alliance's intention to expand beyond its current silicon-vendor dominated membership to encompass all areas of the embedded vision ecosystem, including middleware and other software suppliers:
